Box Score RENO, Nevada (October 12, 2021)- A 1-0 win would be the result on Tuesday for TMCC's men against Lake Tahoe Community College.
Excellent defensive work from TMCC's back line secured the Lizards their fifth clean sheet of the season, while
Ely Marin found the net just after halftime to give TMCC their second win in their last three matches.
The Lizards came out as strong as they've been all season, controlling the attacking third with ease over their Tahoe foes. Sophomore
Ben Linnert nearly gave TMCC a lead early, but his 5th minute shot was kept out by a great save from Coyotes goalkeeper Cruz Ramirez. Linnert's early chance set the tone, as TMCC would go on to post eight shots in the opening half.
While the contest would go into the break tied 0-0, TMCC's men wasted no time converting after the start of the second half. After a corner kick bounced out towards the top of the penalty area, midfielder
Ely Marin punched it in for TMCC's lone score of the night in the 47th minute.
TMCC continued to threaten throughout the second half, coming close to doubling their advantage on multiple occasions. Marin had a great look in the 64th minute, but his shot would be kept out by good defending from LTCC's back line. Freshman
Jaden Roig came close to netting his fifth score of the season in the 77th, but his close range attempt would be stopped by Ramirez, who through 90 minutes finished with four saves.
Sophomore backs
Erick Ceja-Gonzalez,
Ryan Rutherford, and
Jacob Duran were stellar in the victory. The trio kept the visitors without a shot taken until the 52nd minute, limiting them to eight for the entire match. Their performance notched TMCC their fifth clean shutout performance of the season, and second in their last three matches.
TMCC's men will resume conference play this Sunday, when they hit the road to Utah for their final meeting of the season with Salt Lake Community College. The match will be streamed live on the Lizards Sports Network.
