Box Score
RENO, Nevada- A late score from Snow College undid an otherwise strong performance from TMCC on Saturday afternoon. Badgers Midfielder Ryuya Muira found the net in the 87th minute, putting TMCC down 3-2 in the two squads' second and final meeting of the season.
The visitors would pull ahead almost immediately after the opening whistle, going up 1-0 on a great strike by Zachary Lifferth from distance in the second minute. The score would be all they would muster in the opening half, as TMCC's defensive unit would keep the visitors quiet otherwise. TMCC posted six shots to the Badgers' seven, and nearly manufactured a couple of chances to pull even.
The Mighty Lizards would score to knot things at one apiece in the 52nd minute, when midfielder
Oscar Villasenor corralled a corner kick that bounced high before putting a shot past Snow keeper Zachary Dean. Villasenor would finish the day tied for a team-high three shots, putting two on target.
While the match would remain without a score until the 70th, both teams continued to knock on the door on the offensive end. The Badgers would briefly pull ahead with 20 minutes remaining, when midfielder Ryuya Muira's shot took an unlucky deflection off a TMCC defender high enough to get over the head of
Sean Lucas in goal. TMCC would pull even just ten minutes later, when
Cameron Kornock netted the second score of the day for the Mighty Lizards.
A great save in the 84th from
Sean Lucas and defensive work by Lizards backs Erick Ceja Gonzalez in the 85th would keep the visitors from breaking the tie. However, Snow would secure the win with an 87th minute score to put TMCC down 3-2.
Following two matches at home, the Mighty Lizards will hit the road again next week for matches against Community Christian College and in-state rival Southern Nevada on October 7 and 9. Both matches will be streamed live on the Scenic West Network.
