Box Score Reno, Nev. — TMCC fell to Lassen Community College by a score of 1-0 on Friday night.
TMCC put on an offensive showcase in the defeat, posting 19 shots and putting seven on target while having no trouble manufacturing scoring chances. Freshman
Jaden Roig led the way for TMCC on the offensive end, finishing the match with five shots, and nearly snuck two of them past Cougars goalkeeper Cristobal Romero.
TMCC nearly took an early lead, but a penalty attempt from sophomore
Adolfo Sanchez would go just wide of the post in the 15th minute.
Lassen would get on the board mid-way through the first half when midfielder Will Wray found the back of the net on an assist from Marcos Paiz. However, the Cougars would be kept quiet for the rest of the night, putting together just one more scoring chance.
Second-year backs
Ryan Rutherford and
Jacob Duran stepped up to fill the absence of
Erick Ceja-Gonzalez well, keeping the Cougars without a shot for the entire second half. TMCC's defensive unit has conceded just two scores across their first three matches of the season.
Lassen would play the final five minutes of the match with ten men after midfielder Mael Graf was shown a red card for two cautions in the 84th minute.
The Mighty Lizards are back in action this Tuesday, August 31 when they welcome Feather River College (Quincy, CA) for their final non-conference contest of the season. Women's soccer will kick off at 5:00 p.m., followed by Men's Soccer at 7:00 p.m.
