Truckee Meadows Community College volleyball returned home this weekend for a two match series against the College of Southern Idaho, continuing its inaugural season of intercollegiate competition.
Â
The Mighty Lizards opened the weekend on Friday night, falling to the nationally ranked Golden Eagles in three sets, 25 to 19, 25 to 10, and 25 to 15. TMCC showed its competitiveness early, recording 11 kills in the opening set and hitting .391 as a team.
Â
TMCC returned to the court Saturday afternoon looking to respond in the second match of the series. The Mighty Lizards took the second set, 25 to 21, to earn their first set victory against CSI, but the Golden Eagles ultimately secured the match with a 3 to 1 victory. The final scores were 25 to 17, 21 to 25, 25 to 16, and 25 to 12.
Â
Despite the results, the weekend provided TMCC with another opportunity to gain experience against an established Scenic West Athletic Conference opponent. The two matches also marked another important weekend for the Mighty Lizards as they continue building their program during its first season of intercollegiate volleyball.
Â
TMCC now moves forward with more conference experience under its belt as the team prepares for its next challenge on the road.
Â
The Mighty Lizards will travel to Salt Lake Community College next weekend for another two match conference series. The first match is scheduled for Friday, October 9, followed by the second match on Saturday, October 10.
