IRVINE, California (October 7, 2021)- TMCC's Men secured their fourth win in conference play on Thursday, putting down Community Christian College 1-0.
Sophomore midfielder Luis Chavez netted the match's only score late in the second half to put TMCC over the Saints for the second time this season. A left-footed rocket from 25 yards out, good for the midfielder's second score of the year, gave the Lizards the advantage in the final minutes.
TMCC would threaten constantly on the offensive end, but would be unable to break through for most of the match. Excellent defensive work from the hosts would keep the Lizards from finding the net despite possessing almost constantly in the attacking half during the final 45 minutes.
With the victory, the Mighty Lizards tallied their fourth clean sheet of the year- a number good for second in the conference this season behind only #1 ranked Salt Lake. Second-year goalkeeper Sean Lucas was excellent in the contest, putting together a very clean performance complete with a couple of crucial saves in the opening half.
"Today was a collective effort," said Coach Geoff Hawkins. "It was a game we needed to win, and everyone pulled together well to get it done."
TMCC's Men continue their two-game road trip this Saturday, when they take on in-state rival Southern Nevada from Las Vegas. Kickoff is set for 11:00 a.m., and the match will be streamed live on the Scenic West Network.
