RECAP: TMCC Men Improve To 3-1 On The Season With 6-2 Win

Reno, Nev. — After an exciting finish on Thursday in extra time, the TMCC men kept their momentum going with a 6-2 victory over Colorado Northwestern Community College Saturday.

The Lizards came out firing on all cylinders, showing excellent pace as they scored five times before the break. TMCC would dominate the offensive third of their opponents once again, posting 20 shots to CNCC's 8 to secure their third victory of the season.

Defender Alfredo Robles-Rodriguez, the hero from Thursday's overtime win, opened the scoring in the 12th minute off an excellent assist from midfielder Luis Chavez. The remainder of the scoring in the first half would come from sophomore Adolfo Sanchez, who made the most of his minutes all afternoon posting four goals on a game high seven shots.

While the second half wouldn't be as clean for the Lizards, TMCC's 5-1 advantage in the opening 45 minutes would be all they needed to down a Spartans squad coming off a tough loss to conference leader Salt Lake CC. A score from forward Mahad Haji in the 59th minute would allow the Spartans to generate some momentum, opening up some chances for them as the match wore on. First-year midfielder Osvaldo Gomez-Mata would give the Lizards some insurance with an 82nd minute score of his own before the final whistle signaled the Lizards third victory in four matches.

Freshman Allen Somera was also excellent in the win, racking up three assists and keeping CNCC defenders on their heels all afternoon.

TMCC will travel to Salt Lake City, UT for possibly its toughest test of the season against Scenic West leader Salt Lake Community College on April 24.
