Mighty Lizard Men Close Out 2024 Season With Victory Over USUE

Box Score Reno, NV - Truckee Meadows Community College Men's Soccer wrapped up their 2024 regular season with an impressive 4-2 victory over Utah State University Eastern on Saturday.

Prior to the start of the final home match of the season, TMCC individually honored the twelve outgoing sophomore student-athletes at midfield for their dedication and hard work both on and off the pitch. Players were presented flowers while PA announcer Will Bumgardner read through their favorite memories as a Mighty Lizard, what each planned to do after graduation, as well as who they were thankful for throughout their life.

Kicking things off on the offensive end, the Mighty Lizards found their first chance for a goal in the 13th minute on a corner kick opportunity. Midfielder Guillermo Hernandez took the corner kick, and second year student-athlete Hunter Hernandez would find the back of the net off a header, good for his second goal of the season. As for Guillermo, he now sits atop TMCC's Top 5 for Assists in a single season with five total.

TMCC continued their offensive efforts in the second half, finishing with three additional goals in the final 45 minutes of action. First year student-athlete Roberto Castillo found the back of the net twice, first in the 50th minute and again in the 60th minute. Julian Velasquez was credited with the assist on both goals for playing both through balls that found Castillo. Closing out the scoring for the Mighty Lizards was Mario Alarcon in the 75th minute after a battle in the penalty area left the second year midfielder open to bury TMCC's fourth and final goal of the match. The assist was credited to Federico Bernabe.

Utah State University Eastern midfielder Logan Allen would find the back of the net twice in the second half, but the Golden Eagles ultimately succumbed to the Mighty Lizards at the final whistle. A combined effort from Truckee Meadows goalkeepers Jacob Rivera Gomez and Issael Moctezuma helped cement the victory for the Mighty Lizards, with each goalkeeper recording four saves across 45 minutes.

With the victory, Truckee Meadows Men's Soccer finished the season with an overall record of 6-8-4 and a conference record of 4-7-3. The Mighty Lizard Men placed sixth in this year's Scenic West Athletic Conference standings, and will look to 2025 to regain a Region XVIII Tournament berth.
