Mighty Lizard Men Victorious in Season Debut at Rogue Community College

Box Score Medford, OR - Truckee Meadows Community College Men's Soccer faced off against Rogue Community College to begin the 2024 campaign, taking down the Ospreys by a score of 5-1.

The Mighty Lizards opened the scoring in the 18th minute off the boot of Brandon Escobedo, coming off a Guillermo Hernandez through ball. Just six minutes later, Fernando Robles found the back of the net for his first goal of the season, with Josue Rivas being credited with the assist. With just a minute to go in the first half, Rogue found themselves with an opportunity to score, ultimately finding the back of the net on an own goal due to miscommunication between the back line and the goalkeeper. At halftime, Truckee Meadows led the Ospreys by a score of 2-1.

Entering the second half, Truckee Meadows quickly found themselves back on the offensive front, eagerly looking for additional goal scoring opportunities. In the 60th minute, a foul inside the penalty area led to a Julian Velasquez PK, converted for a goal. The Damonte Ranch product found the bottom left corner of the net, putting the Mighty Lizards up 3-1. Just five minutes later, Velasquez would notch an assist on Fernando Robles' second goal of the match. A last minute corner kick sealed the deal for the Mighty Lizards, as defender Hunter Hernandez found the back of the net off a header.

With the victory, Truckee Meadows Men's Soccer moves to 1-0 on the season. The Mighty Lizards will next face College of the Siskiyous in Weed, CA on Sunday, Aug. 25. Kickoff will commence at 12:00 p.m.
