TMCC Soccer Finds Success with Youth Soccer Camps

Reno, NV - Truckee Meadows Community College Soccer is currently in the midst of its third summer of hosting Youth Soccer Camps at the TMCC Soccer Field.

Instructing kids from an age range between 5 and 14, kids are broken up into groups based on  age and skill level on day one, fostering the environment needed for developmental success. This year's camp offers both full-day and half-day sessions. The first half of the day is spent on the soccer field for about three hours working on drills regarding spacial awareness, finding open passing lanes, dribbling and shooting, while also playing in league-style scrimmages. Afterwards, players make their way up to Cafe Verde for lunch, then head to the Sierra building to beat the summer heat and watch a sports-related movie. The day wraps up with indoor soccer on the basketball court in the TMCC Sports and Fitness Center until pick-up time.

TMCC debuted the first year of Youth Soccer Camps in July 2023 and saw small but meaningful success, both on paper and on the pitch. Working with a group of about 20-25 kids, coaches aimed to create a fun environment while also hammering on basic fundamentals. The following summer saw a slight increase in growth, with a daily total of around 30-35 kids attending morning sessions.

This year's Youth Soccer camp has doubled in size, with about 70 kids attending the main on-field sessions. Among those kids, many are first timers while many more are repeat attendees—an omen to the positive impact we've been able to make in the community. More kids on the pitch only means more opportunity to grow, for them as soccer players, and for the coaching staff as role models and problem solvers.

The increase in camp size boils down to a combination of multiple factors. This year, TMCC Athletics began advertising for the camps well before the spring soccer season. Additionally, we believe boosting our social media posts to increase our online reach helped to increase the number of sign-ups. With this being the third year of soccer camps, it may be safe to assume that compounded interest may have increased the word-of-mouth communication surrounding the desire to attend.

As we look ahead to 2026 and beyond, TMCC Athletics is excited to further our community interactions through the youth of Northern Nevada. We have looked forward to hosting these Youth Soccer camps since they first formed three years ago, and hope to continue the trend of furthering growth and making memories across all levels of the game.
