RENO, NV – Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) Men's Soccer hits the road this week for a challenging two-match conference stretch as the Mighty Lizards prepare to face No. 4 ranked Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) and No. 14 Utah State University Eastern (USUE) in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA)
TMCC opens the road trip on Thursday, Sept. 17, against the SLCC Bruins in Salt Lake City, Utah, with kickoff set for 2:30 p.m.
The Bruins enter Thursday's matchup with a 5-0-1 overall record and a 2-0-1 mark in conference play. SLCC has outscored opponents 21-3 through its opening six matches, with Alan Guzman emerging as one of the Bruins' offensive threats with four goals.
TMCC is familiar with the challenge that Salt Lake presents. The programs met twice last season, with SLCC earning a 6-0 victory in Salt Lake City before the Mighty Lizards battled the Bruins in a much closer 1-0 loss at home.
Following Thursday's matchup, TMCC will travel to Price, Utah, to take on the No. 14 USUE Eagles on Saturday, Sept. 19, at 12:30 p.m.
The Eagles enter the week with a 3-2-2 overall record and a 1-1-1 mark in conference play. USUE has scored 15 goals through seven matches and has already shown its ability to compete with nationally ranked opponents, battling No. 4 SLCC to a 2-2 draw earlier this season.
Leandro Robles leads the Eagles' attack with four goals and an assist, while goalkeeper Xavier Peregrina has recorded 25 saves and three shutouts. The Mighty Lizards will look to contain a USUE team that has received contributions throughout its lineup.
TMCC faced USUE twice last season, with the Eagles taking both meetings. USUE earned a 4-0 victory in Reno before defeating the Mighty Lizards 7-0 later in the season in Price.
The Mighty Lizards enter the road trip looking to build on an offensive breakthrough against Pacific Northwest Christian College. TMCC found the back of the net eight times, with six different student-athletes contributing goals in the victory.
Landon Savri led the attack with a hat trick, while Gavin Sibayan added a goal and an assist. Brayan Cabrera, Juan Velazquez, Joel Willard and Sergio Martin also found the back of the net, showcasing TMCC's ability to generate offense throughout its lineup.
Now, the Mighty Lizards will look to carry that momentum into one of their most challenging stretches of conference play. Facing two nationally ranked opponents on the road will give TMCC an opportunity to build on its recent performance and measure its progress against two of Region 18's top teams.
