Ephraim, Utah — Coming off of their thrilling 2-1 victory against in-state rival College of Southern Nevada on Thursday, the TMCC Men fell to Snow College on Saturday afternoon.
A heartbreaking 0-1 loss in double-overtime would be the verdict in TMCC's Saturday contest, after a 90 minute stalemate saw the match go back and forth. Badgers forward Diego Lobato would find the net off of an assist from midfielder Fabrice Aitken, sealing a Badgers victory in the 102nd minute.
Despite the loss, TMCC put together an excellent showing in what was a well-played, highly competitive match. The Lizards nearly took a lead early on, but a shot by forward
Jahmeyel Blackman just two minutes in would be deflected out by an excellent save from Snow goalkeeper Zachary Dean. Both squads would trade chances throughout the remainder of the first 90 minutes, nearly matching each other's totals in shots by the end of regulation and establishing effectiveness in their opponents defensive thirds.
Defender
Erick Ceja-Gonzalez put in another fantastic effort for the Lizards defensive unit, and freshman midfielders
Osvaldo Gomez-Mata and
Allen Somera were excellent in facilitating scoring chances all afternoon. Sophomore
Adolfo Sanchez would be in the middle of the action for most of the match, leading the Lizards with four shots, and first-year goalkeeper
Sean Lucas would turn in a quality performance with five saves in his first game action of the year.
"I thought today's match was an excellent example of a tough, Scenic West battle," said Lizards Coach
Geoff Hawkins. "It was anyone's game until the very end. The result is unfortunate, but that is what soccer is all about."
TMCC will resume play on Thursday, April 15 when they welcome Utah State University Eastern (Price, UT) for their first home match of the season.
