Henderson, Nev. — TMCC Women's Soccer opened the 2021 season with a 1-5 loss to in-state rival College of Southern Nevada on Thursday.
The Lizards struggled to generate chances against a formidable CSN squad, putting up only six shots on goal to CSN's 18. The Coyotes controlled possession for most of the afternoon, getting on the board early with a 8th minute score from forward Geraldi Rivera, who would find the back of the net two more times in the 23rd and 41st minute. The Coyotes remaining scores would come from the feet of first-year forwards Jasmin Pizano and Nanea Rabang.
TMCC's only score on the day would come from sophomore midfielder
Yalison Espinosa, who found the net in the 75th minute on an assist from first-year defender
Kennedy Ficklin. The remainder of the Lizards chances would come from forwards
Emily Mendoza-Obeso and
Yanitzia Perez-Galvan, who both posted two shots on goal, as well as freshman defender
Tara Dragoo.
While a tough way to start the season, Lizards Coach
Geoff Hawkins is hopeful that his team will rebound. "While the result is disappointing, I am proud of how they improved during the second half, especially given the high temperatures. I think getting out of the way the emotion that comes with a season opener will benefit us as we look forward to Saturday."
The Lizards continue their road trip to open the season on Saturday, April 10 against 5th ranked Snow College (Ephraim, UT). Kickoff is scheduled for 11:00AM (MDT).
