Craig, Colo.- After three tough matches that saw the Lizards encounter all kinds of bad luck, TMCC got back into the win column in convincing fashion on Saturday against Colorado Northwestern Community College.
The Lizards women's side was dominant in all aspects in their first of two road matches this weekend. TMCC would fill up the stat sheet for the entire morning, outshooting the Spartans 57-2 as they were unable to generate any chances and struggled to maintain possession against a tactically superior Lizards team hungry to rebound from a troublesome couple of weeks. Sophomore
Madlyn Winters would put TMCC up first with a 19
th minute score, setting the tone for what would by far be a season high in shots for
either TMCC squad.
Nearly every Lizard was involved in the offensive explosion, with forward
Emily Mendoza-Obeso leading the way with three scores on six shots (five on goal). Sophomore
Yanitzia Perez-Galvan, midfielder
Yalison Espinosa and forward
Isabel Gonzalez would all finish with 10 plus shots each, making the most of the space provided to them by CNCC defenders. All eleven Lizards would find at least one scoring opportunity and five would find the back of the net before the whistle would sound.
While CNCC goalkeeper Andrea Serrano would have a busy day, conceding nine scores, she did well to defend the Lizards constant pressure, finishing with an impressive 26 saves for the match.
The Lizards will travel to Price, UT to face off with the Utah State University Eastern Eagles on Friday. Â
