Reno, NV - Mighty Lizards Men's and Women's Soccer will begin their 2023 season at home on Saturday, Aug. 26. TMCC will host Shasta College Women's Soccer for a 4 p.m. match, followed by Lassen Community College Men's Soccer taking on the Mighty Lizards at 7 p.m.
Coming off a successful three game road trip across Wyoming last week, TMCC will look to carry that positive momentum into Saturday's matches and onward. The Mighty Lizard Women finished with two wins and a loss while out of state, while the Mighty Lizard Men came home with a win, tie and loss.Â
On the women's side, second year athletes Rylee Husted and Heidi Anavisca look to lead the way both offensively and defensively for the Mighty Lizards. At the time of this story, Husted is tied for second in goals scored across NJCAA DI with four, with Anavisca sitting just outside the Top 10 lists with a .909 save percentage and a .067 GAA.
On the men's side, goalkeeper Isaac Poole sits third in total saves with 14 after the opening road trip. A transfer from Clark College in Vancouver, WA, Poole will look to anchor the Mighty Lizards defensively, along with the likes of second year defenders Bryan Avila, Ricky Cortes and Diego Lopez.
Athletic Director and Coach Geoff Hawkins showed enthusiasm when asked about the state of the soccer programs while simply stating, "We need to improve upon and refine team strategies that have already been implemented."
You can catch all of Saturday's action live by attending the games at the Dandini Campus, or online at the Scenic West Network, or the Mighty Lizards homepage by clicking "Lizards Sports Network" under "Fan Zone."
