Mighty Lizard Women Prevail Over In-State Rival CSN

Box Score Reno, NV - Truckee Meadows Community College Women's Soccer hosted the College of Southern Nevada on Saturday, getting the better of the in-state rivals by a score of 3-1.
 
All eyes were on TMCC's Rylee Husted in the first half, where she led the charge with three goals scored and plenty of opportunity for more. Husted netted her first goal in the 5th minute of play after breaking past multiple CSN defenders, then netted her second goal just 12 minutes later. She secured the hat trick on a 34th minute boot while being assisted by first-year athlete Felicity Codman. After the first 45 minutes, the Mighty Lizards went into halftime leading by quite a comfortable margin.

As the second half began, CSN quickly turned defensive mishaps into offensive opportunities. Forcing the ball further into Mighty Lizards territory, the Coyotes got an opportunity for a penalty kick after a 59th minute penalty in the penalty box. Jenna Garcia of CSN converted the penalty kick, putting CSN on the board with roughly 30 minutes remaining. Despite allowing a PK goal, Mighty Lizards goalkeeper Heidi Anavisaca continued to serve as a defensive anchor, finishing the match with nine saves.

TMCC picked up a total of five fouls over 90 minutes, four of which resulted in yellow cards, and secured the victory while holding a two-goal lead. With the win, TMCC leads the Silver State Series one game to none, and improves to 7-4 on the season.

The Mighty Lizards will be back in action on Saturday, Sep. 30, as they play host to Pacific Northwest Christian College. Kickoff is slated for 11:00, and the match will be streamed live on Lizards Sports Network.
