RENO, NV – Truckee Meadows Community College Women's Soccer hits the road this week for a challenging two-match conference stretch as the Mighty Lizards prepare to face No. 6 Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) and No. 20 Utah State University Eastern (USUE).
TMCC opens the road trip Thursday, Sept. 17, against SLCC in Salt Lake City, Utah, with kickoff set for Noon.
The SLCC Bruins enter Thursday's matchup undefeated with a 5-0-1 overall record and a 2-0-1 mark in conference play. SLCC has outscored opponents 18-4 through six matches while averaging three goals per game.
Seanna Harris has helped lead the Bruins' attack with four goals and three assists, while Lizzie Cowdell and Alyssa Boydston have each added three goals. SLCC has received offensive contributions throughout its lineup, with eight different players finding the back of the net this season.
The Bruins are coming off a 4-1 victory over Colorado Northwestern Community College after battling Snow College to a 1-1 draw. SLCC has also already faced TMCC's second opponent of the road trip, earning a 3-1 victory over USUE on Sept. 5.
Following Thursday's matchup, the Mighty Lizards will travel to Price, Utah, to take on No. 20 USUE on Saturday, Sept. 19, with kickoff set for 10 a.m.
The Eagles enter the week with a 3-4 overall record and a 1-2 mark in conference competition. USUE opened its season with victories over Casper College and Western Nebraska Community College before beginning conference play against Salt Lake.
USUE will look to respond after a closely contested 2-1 loss to Snow College in its most recent matchup. The Eagles carried a 1-1 tie into halftime before Snow found the deciding goal in the second half.
TMCC is familiar with the challenge USUE presents. The two programs met twice last season, with the Eagles earning a pair of 3-0 victories, including one in Reno and another later in the season in Price.
The Mighty Lizards enter the road trip with a 3-5 overall record after splitting their first two matches of the recent homestand. TMCC put together an offensive breakthrough in a 10-0 victory over Pacific Northwest Christian College (PNWCC) before falling to North Idaho College.
Chloe McMinn and Esmeralda Machuca each recorded hat tricks against PNWCC as the Mighty Lizards showcased their ability to generate opportunities throughout the lineup. Serenity Villatora, Soraya Dominguez, Itzel Hernandez-Pizano and Natalie Harper also contributed goals in the victory.
Now, TMCC will look to carry the lessons and experience from its opening conference matches into one of its most challenging stretches of the season. Facing No. 6 Salt Lake and No. 20 USUE on the road gives the Mighty Lizards an opportunity to test their progress against two nationally ranked Region 18 opponents.
