The Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) Women's Soccer team is set to travel to Quincy, California, to take on Feather River College Tuesday, Sept. 29, with kickoff scheduled for 4 p.m.
The Golden Eagles enter Tuesday's matchup with a 5-1-3 record and are riding a three-game winning streak. Feather River has earned shutout victories in each of its last three matches, defeating American River 1-0, Yuba 3-0 and De Anza 1-0.
The matchup also brings together two programs competing under different collegiate athletic associations, with TMCC competing in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and Feather River competing in the California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A).
Tuesday's matchup will be the first official meeting between the two teams after TMCC and Feather River previously met for a preseason scrimmage. While the teams have already seen each other on the field, Tuesday's contest will be the first meeting where the result counts toward each team's season record.
Feather River's recent success has been led on the offensive end by Carmen Damian, who has recorded six goals and four assists for 16 total points in eight games. The Lizards will look to limit Damian's opportunities while trying to create chances of their own against a Golden Eagles defense that has not allowed a goal in its last three matches.
TMCC enters the matchup with a 3-8 record and will look to bounce back after falling to Colorado Northwestern Community College in its most recent contest.
The Lizards have also faced a challenging stretch that included matchups against nationally ranked opponents. TMCC fell 1-2 to No. 17 Snow College before dropping a 2-4 decision to No. 20 Utah State University Eastern.
Against Utah Eastern, the Lizards trailed 4-0 at halftime but responded with a strong second half, scoring twice while holding the Eagles scoreless over the final 45 minutes.
The Lizards' recent matches have also featured strong individual defensive performances. Jessica Vera put together a gritty performance as a field player, making several goal-saving defensive stops while playing outside of her primary position as a goalkeeper. Esmeralda Machuca also provided consistent hustle and defensive effort throughout the match.
On the offensive side, Chloe McMinn leads the Lizards with seven goals this season. McMinn will look to create opportunities for TMCC against a Feather River team that has posted three consecutive shutouts.
With both teams coming into Tuesday's matchup looking to continue their recent momentum, the Lizards will look to put together a strong performance on the road against the Golden Eagles.
The Mighty Lizards take on Feather River College Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 4 p.m. at the Feather River soccer field in Quincy, California.
