Box Score Salt Lake City, Utah. — After finding the win column for the first time on April 17, the Lizards had a glimmer of hope that things would start trending upward as they moved into the second half of the season.
However, the road wouldn't get any easier as a 0-4 loss to Salt Lake Community College on Saturday was headlined by injuries even after the Lizards entered the match shorthanded. TMCC came into Saturday with just 11 healthy players, a disadvantage that they were simply unable to overcome against a strong Bruins squad that had no problems controlling possession.
TMCC would finish with just 10 women on the field after first-year midfielder
Tara Dragoo was unable to return from injury midway through the first half. Health would be a major concern for the rest of the match, as multiple players would finish at less than 100 percent. Despite the challenging circumstances, TMCC's ladies played well, maintaining their composure and focus for the entire 90 minutes.
"All things considered, I'm proud of how our ladies played considering all that was thrown at them," said Coach
Geoff Hawkins. "Being asked to go out with no subs against a squad as strong as the one we saw today and battling like they did is a tough assignment."
A bright spot in the loss was the performance of second-year goalkeeper
Kaitlyn Mendoza, who after a busy afternoon would finish with 13 saves.
The Lizards will return home to start the second half of the season on Thursday when they welcome Snow College (Ephraim, UT) for their second meeting of the season.
