Box Score Herriman, Utah- TMCC's second ever campaign ended on Tuesday with a loss to conference champion Salt Lake Community College in the first round of the Region 18 tournament.
Making their first ever postseason appearance, TMCC came out strong, holding the high-octane Bruins offensive unit scoreless throughout most of the first half. While they would struggle to put pressure on Salt Lake in the attacking third, the match was more than in reach for all of the opening 45 minutes.
While TMCC would only muster three scoring chances on the afternoon, second-year backs
Anthony Chavez and
Alfredo Robles-Rodriguez did an excellent job containing the impressive speed of Bruins forwards Samuel Owusu and Ryen Jiba.
Salt Lake would take the lead on a corner kick put in by Santiano Delfino just two minutes before the half, giving the Bruins a 1-0 advantage going into the break.
The Bruins would widen their lead with two additional scores by forward Levonte Johnson in the 54
th and 75
th minutes. Midfielder Kai Phillip would find the net in the 83
rd, assisted by Jason Chavez, sealing the deal for Salt Lake.
After the match, Mighty Lizards
Wilmer Hernandez-Parra,
Luis Chavez,
Allen Somera, and
Erick Ceja-Gonzalez were honored with NJCAA Region 18 All-Conference recognition.
