Box Score Reno, NV - The first match of the season was a tough break for the Mighty Lizards, as they were routed by Northwest College 4-1 at the TMCC Soccer Field.
In a game that was overridden by a total of 9 fouls and two red cards, the Mighty Lizards struggled to get the ball rolling on the offensive end. Additionally, Northwest College picked up a total of 13 fouls and a red card of their own, but the Trappers were able to strike first blood in what turned out to be an aggressive game on both fronts.
NWC was led by Ricardo Farias da Silva, who netted two goals in 90 minutes. The first one came off a free kick in the 2nd minute from 20 yards out, the second came in the 72nd on a breakaway down the left wing.
For the Mighty Lizards, it was Sebastian Leguizamon who netted the only goal for TMCC, a 40 yard boot in the 86thminute, with the assist credited to Brady Payton. TMCC saw multiple shot opportunities from Leguizamon and Connor Friesen, but were unable to convert on multiple opportunities.
"We just need to limit our own mistakes," said head coach Geoff Hawkins following the loss. "We had a lot of mental errors that cost us some big goals."
TMCC will be back in action on Monday, Aug. 22 for a scrimmage against Battle Born FC at home, where they hope to bounce back from their loss before playing Lake Tahoe Community College on Friday, Aug. 26.
