TMCC Soccer - 2024 Season Review

Reno, NV - Truckee Meadows Community College Men's & Women's Soccer closed out their 2024 campaigns on Saturday, Oct. 26 after hosting USUE to conclude the regular season. Having wrapped up the sixth season of action, it's now time for our 2024 End of Season Review.

Notable Statistics - Women's Soccer
Truckee Meadows Women's Soccer finished their season with an overall record of 6-6-6 and a conference record of 4-5-5, good for a tie for fifth in the Region XVIII standings. The 2024 campaign brought plenty of highlights both offensively and defensively on the pitch, regardless of not qualifying for this year's regional tournament.

On the offensive end, midfielder Abigail Ramirez broke into TMCC's Top 5 with six goals on the year, good enough to put her in a tie for third with Felicity Codman, who scored six goals in the 2023 campaign. Ramirez's goal total also placed her fourth on the All-Time Top 5 in Points/Season with 12 total.

On the opposite side of the pitch, goalkeepers Zury Rangel and Dakota Gomez entered the performance lists in Saves/Season with 30 and 15 each, good enough to place them third and fifth respectively. Rangel additionally entered TMCC's Top 5 in Minutes in Net/Season with 606:00 to place her fourth all-time, along with Monserrat Iza with 495:00.

Notable Statistics - Men's Soccer
Truckee Meadows Men's Soccer capped off their season with an overall record of 6-8-4 and a conference record of 4-7-3, good for sixth in the Scenic West standings. Despite not qualifying for this year's regional tournament, this season saw numerous athletes enter TMCC's All-Time Top 5 in each category.

Beginning with TMCC's attacking lines, Fernando Robles broke the school record in Goals/Season with eight on the year, as well as Points/Season with 16. Additionally, Brandon Escobedo found the back of the net five times, good enough to tie him for second all time. Guillermo Hernandez broke the school record in Assists/Season with five total in the 2024 campaign. Also entering TMCC's performance list in Assists/Season was Marco Monreal (4) and Mario Alarcon (3). In addition, both Hernandez and Escobedo sit tied for third in Points/Season with 11 each.

Goalkeeper Jacob Rivera Gomez found his way into the TMCC Top 5 in Saves/Season with 47, as well as minutes in net with 751:22. He currently sits in 3rd all time in Saves/Season and fourth all time in Minutes in Net/Season. Goalkeeper Issael Moctezuma broke into the All-Time Top 5 listings in Minutes in Net/Season with 692:59.

New Conference Foes
We had the pleasure of hosting North Idaho College and College of Southern Idaho for the first time in school history as newly affiliated members of the Scenic West Athletic Conference. The Mighty Lizard Women finished 0-2-2 against both Idaho schools, while the Mighty Lizard Men finished 0-3-1 against schools from the Gem State. Finding more success towards the latter half of the season, the Mighty Lizard Women finished in a 1-1 tie at CSI and against NIC. The Mighty Lizard Men came away with a 1-1 tie against NIC after a last minute Fernando Robles free kick found its way in the top right corner of the net. Both schools proved to be excellent competition for TMCC, and we cannot wait to face off against them again next fall.

Looking Ahead To 2025
To close out the season, the Scenic West Athletic Conference awarded six Mighty Lizards with 2024 All-Region XVIII Honors. Mighty Lizards Fernando Robles, Mayra Munoz and Abigail Ramirez were awarded All-Region Second Team for their play on the pitch, while second year student-athletes Brandon Escobedo, Yamilet Carrillo and Arianna Cano picked up All-Region Third Team honors.

Truckee Meadows Soccer will be back in action next spring where they'll face off against numerous schools and local clubs in scrimmage-style matches. These games will be announced in the upcoming months. Head Coaches Geoff Hawkins and Kyle Kelly remain hard at work looking for the next generation of Lizards to bring in, as they hope to outreach expectations next season.
