The Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) Men's Soccer team is set for a two-game conference weekend as the Mighty Lizards welcome Pacific Northwest Christian College (PNWCC) and No. 17 North Idaho College (NIC) to the TMCC Soccer Field.
The Lizards open the weekend Thursday, Sept. 10, against PNWCC, with kickoff set for 3:30 p.m.
The Gladiators enter Thursday's matchup with an 0-4 record and opened Scenic West Athletic Conference play with an 8-0 loss to North Idaho. Despite PNWCC's record, TMCC will look to stay focused and continue building momentum as conference play gets underway.
The Lizards have found success against PNWCC in recent meetings, earning 2-0 and 4-1 victories over the Gladiators last season. TMCC will look to build on that success Thursday while putting together a strong performance at home.
Following Thursday's matchup, the Lizards will turn their attention to North Idaho on Saturday, Sept. 12, with kickoff set for 1:30 p.m.
The Cardinals enter the weekend undefeated at 5-0-1 and ranked No. 17 nationally in the latest NJCAA Men's Soccer rankings. North Idaho also opened conference play with an 8-0 victory over PNWCC.
Saturday's matchup will provide another strong test for the Lizards against a North Idaho team that has found success in recent meetings. Last season, the Cardinals defeated TMCC 5-1 before earning an 8-0 victory in their second meeting.
The Lizards enter the weekend with a 1-3 record after falling 5-1 to the College of Southern Idaho in their conference opener. While the final score favored CSI, TMCC continued to battle throughout the match, particularly on the defensive end.
CSI recorded 15 shots compared to TMCC's three, but the Lizards' back line remained gritty throughout the match, challenging opposing attackers and continuing to fight through the final whistle.
Goalkeeper Rocco Primerano made four saves in the match, while Gavin Sibayan provided TMCC's offensive highlight. Sibayan found the back of the net after receiving a through ball from Jordan Gomez and finishing the opportunity for the Lizards.
Now, TMCC will look to carry that same defensive determination and fight into the weekend. Thursday's matchup with PNWCC gives the Lizards an opportunity to build momentum, while Saturday's contest against undefeated and nationally ranked North Idaho will provide another opportunity to compete against a highly successful conference opponent.
The Mighty Lizards take on Pacific Northwest Christian College Thursday, Sept. 10, at 3:30 p.m. before facing North Idaho College Saturday, Sept. 12, at 1:30 p.m. Both matches will be played at the TMCC Soccer Field.
