The Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) Men's Soccer team opens Scenic West Athletic Conference play on Saturday, Sept. 5, when the Lizards host the College of Southern Idaho (CSI). Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. PST at the TMCC Soccer Field.
TMCC enters the conference opener with a 1-2 overall record, but the Lizards have purposefully challenged themselves with a difficult preseason schedule designed to prepare the team for the intensity of Scenic West competition. That preparation has included taking on some of the nation's best, including a matchup against No. 4-ranked Mohave Community College.
The demanding preseason has given TMCC an opportunity to test itself against high-level competition and identify the areas that will be critical as the conference season gets underway. Now, the Lizards will look to turn that experience into results when the games begin to count in conference standings.
CSI enters Saturday's contest with an official record of 0-0, having yet to play a regular-season match. While the Golden Eagles have not officially taken the field this season, they have been busy with a series of competitive scrimmages in preparation for the campaign.
The question heading into Saturday is whether those competitive scrimmages will be enough to eliminate the first-game jitters that can come with finally stepping into an official contest.
CSI brings a storied athletics tradition and consistently fields a strong, competitive soccer side. The Golden Eagles are expected to arrive ready to make an immediate impact, making the conference opener a significant early test for the Lizards.
With both teams beginning their Scenic West campaigns, Saturday's match offers TMCC an opportunity to put its challenging preseason to work and establish momentum early in conference play.
