IRVINE, California (October 7, 2021)- TMCC's women took their third victory in the last four matches on Thursday, defeating Community Christian College by a score of 5-0.
Multi-goal performances by
Yanitzia Perez-Galvan and
Emily Mendoza-Obeso headlined the win for the Lizards, who each netted two and raised their season scoring total to four. Perez-Galvan opened the scoring for the Lizards in the first half, and kept her foot on the gas, adding a second before just before halftime. Mendoza-Obeso was a constant threat on the right flank, dominating Saints' defenders in one-on-one situations.
Yalison Espinosa would join the offensive showing just after the second half began. After tallying 12 shots through eight conference matches, she put one in for her first score of the year to extend TMCC's advantage to three.
TMCC's defense was strong in the contest, logging their second clean sheet of the year and second in their last four matches. The Lizards last shut out an opponent on September 25 in a 4-0 win over Colorado Northwestern.
The victory avenges a tough afternoon the last time the two squads met on September 9, when the Saints took a 2-1 result from the Lizards despite getting outshot 17-2.
The Mighty Lizards will resume action from the road on Saturday, when they take on in-state rival Southern Nevada from Las Vegas. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. and the match will be broadcast live on the Scenic West Network.Â
