Reno, NV — The Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) Women's Volleyball team returns to the road on Friday, September 11, as the Mighty Lizards travel to Kentfield, California, to take on College of Marin in a doubleheader.
TMCC will face Marin at 11 a.m. before returning to the court for the second match at 2 p.m. The doubleheader will give the Lizards another opportunity to gain valuable experience, build confidence and continue developing team chemistry early in the season.
The Lizards have faced a challenging schedule to open the year, including two matches against the College of Southern Nevada. TMCC also competed against Sierra College in a September 4 scrimmage, giving the team another opportunity to test itself against strong competition.
Although the early results have not gone the Lizards' way, TMCC has continued to show fight and competitiveness. Against Sierra, the Lizards kept the opening two sets close, falling 25-22 and 25-23 before Sierra closed out the match with a 25-17 third-set victory. The competitive nature of those first two sets showcased the determination TMCC will look to carry into Friday's doubleheader.
College of Marin enters Friday with a 4-2 record and will provide another opportunity for the Lizards to compete against a strong opponent. Marin is coming off a straight-set victory over Skyline College (San Bruno, California), winning 25-23, 25-22 and 25-23.
For the Lizards, Friday's doubleheader is about more than the final scores. It is another opportunity to learn, compete and continue building as a team early in the season. Playing twice in one day will challenge TMCC's focus and endurance, while the first match will also give the Lizards an opportunity to make adjustments heading into the afternoon matchup.
Head coach Craig Choate and assistant coach Kaya Estrada will look to keep the Lizards focused and prepared as they take on Marin.
The Lizards will have more opportunities to showcase their growth later this month when North Idaho College comes to Reno for matches on September 18 and 19. The two matches will officially kick off TMCC's Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) schedule.
For now, the focus remains on College of Marin. The Lizards will look to compete with confidence, build on their early-season experience and put together a strong performance in Friday's doubleheader.
